Technology Manual for Law Faculty and Staff

Classroom Laptops and Projectors

Most tiered classrooms and seminar rooms are equipped with laptops and projectors. The computers should power on or wake up when the power button is pushed. The log-in credentials are:

User = classroom

Password = instruction

The projector can be turned on using the remote control available on or under the podium. If the projector loses the computer image, minimize the application you are working in and double click on the Connect to a Projector icon on the desktop.

From there, select the Duplicate button to send the computer image to the projector.

Smartboards

Turning the smartboard on:

Press the Power Button in the lower left portion of the display panel to turn on the smart board. It will take a minute or two to fully power up the board.

The computer should power on when you push the power button, you should log onto the computer using the following credentials.

User = classroom

Password = instruction

If the computer doesn't come on when the power button is pushed, you should see the indicator light next to the power button in a flashing blue condition. This means that you will have to manually turn on the computer, which is located high on the back left side of the display panel (left side as you face the display panel).

Class Recordings

As part of the effort to improve Law IT operations and the student experience, we have automated class recordings. Students will be able to access these recordings on Blackboard regardless of which, if any, course management system (TWEN, Lexis, Classroom, or Blackboard) you use.

Recordings will automatically be available to students on Blackboard a few minutes after the scheduled end of the class. If faculty want to manage the editing and release of their own recordings, they should submit a request to Law IT for an individual account and any needed training.

  • All classes will be recorded, including a video showing the professor, the front of the class, and what, if anything, is projected onto the board.
  • If there are any issues with class recordings, Law IT should be provided as much advance notice as possible at lawhelp@udc.edu.
  • Recordings will begin and end at the scheduled time for the applicable class.
  • Always turn on lapel microphone to ensure the best audio quality. Not all rooms will amplify your voice even if the microphone is on.
  • If you do not want your classes recorded, but must because of an accommodated student, Law IT can restrict access to recordings on an individual student basis. If this is the case, please contact Law IT at lawhelp@udc.edu.

To assist students in accessing the class recordings, consider adding the following instructions to the syllabus:

  1. To access available class recordings, follow these steps:
  2. Log into MyUDC using your standard login credentials (email username and password).
  3. Select the Blackboard link in the QuickLaunch box on the left.
  4. Select the applicable course name listed under "My Courses".
  5. Select "Class Recordings" button on the left.
  6. Click on either the course name link (for access to multiple class recordings) or the date link for an individual recording.
  7. Please contact Law IT at lawhelp@udc.edu with questions regarding recordings
